Araripe Geopark participates in the
I Geopark Seridó Workshop Project

On the last day September 3rd 2015 the Araripe Geopark, through its Executive Francisco Idalécio de Freitas Coordinator, participated in the I Workshop Project Geopark Seridó: realities and challenges, sponsored by the State Government of Rio Grande do Norte State through the Secretariat of State RN Tourism - SETUR / RN Company and Tourist Promotions RN - Emprotur, in partnership with the Public Prosecutor's Office - PGE / RN and Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN.

 

This event aimed to present the different actions carried out in the last five years, exchange experiences with professionals involved with the theme and discuss the implementation in the state. It was a full day of activities with the participation of professionals involved with the theme, highlighting the Executive Coordinator of the Geopark Araripe, Idalécio Freitas, talking about almost 10 years Araripe Geopark in the Global Geoparks Network, the master Geoconservation Flavia Lima addressing how to integrate the Global Geoparks Network, the Coordinator of the Geopark Seridó Project, Marcos Nascimento, exposing the actions already taken as well as the lawyers Carlos Alaminos (SETUR / RN) and Marcelo Costa (PGE / RN) treating at about legal models for the implementation of Geopark Seridó.

Present at the event about 100 people with an interest in this new form of territorial management, which involves the need to take conservation, education and tourism the odd geological interest places in line with other aspects of the natural and cultural heritage. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of SETUR, Ruy Gaspar, representatives of Emprotur and the State Attorney General, mayors, tourism and environment secretaries, academy representatives (researchers and students), the tour guides and private iniciative.

 

Geopark Project Seridó includes 06 municipalities (Cerro Cora, Lagoa Nova, Currais Novos, Acari, Carnauba dos Dantas and Parelhas), totaling approximately 2,800 km2 and counting with 16 geosites inventoried.

Geopark Araripe participates in the III Geobrheritage

The GeoBRheritage III (III Brazilian Symposium on Geological Heritage) happened days 08-13 of September 2015 and the Chapada Diamantina in sheets / BA. The symposium was attended by Brazilian researchers and Portugal in order to expose findings of work and to dialogue on aspects of geoconservation, education, sustainability, geotouristic projects, reflections on museums and the preservation of memory and environmental recovery and connecting the geological heritage with local identity.

 

Among the presentations of exposed panels, it should be noted the 3 major work on the territory of the Geopark Araripe. The first entitled "Geodiversidades and Cultural Values: Geosite Hill Garden in Geopark Araripe, Juazeiro do Norte-Ceará" was presented by the Geographer, gilding in geology from the UFC researcher and developer of Geopark Araripe, Rafael Celestino Soares, with Professor Dr. co-authorships Wellington Ferreira da Silva Filho, guiding and Post Graduate Program Coordinator in Geology from the UFC, Osmanda de Moura Souza, intern, fellow of the Geopark Araripe and student of the URCA Biology course, Laryssa Sheydder de Oliveira, geographer and PhD in Geography from UFPE.

The second, "Museum of Paleontology in Santana do Cariri: problems of fossils from the region and participatory institutional management" with authorship of the Coordinator of the Geopark Communication Sector Araripe, Giane Taeko Mori Rodella, Professor of URCA / Campos Sales and MA in Semiotics and General Linguistics at USP, with co-authoring of Moura Souza Osmanda, Rafael Celestino Soares and Francisco Idalécio de Freitas Geologist, PhD candidate by UFC and Executive Director of the Geopark Araripe.

 

The third work, entitled "Geodiversity Values ​​of Geosites North of Piauí State Center", authored by Laryssa Sheydder de Oliveira Lopes; with co-authoring Rafael Celestino Soares and Osmanda Moura de Souza.

 

In addition to these three panels, three other noteworthy for presenting results on the Territory of the Araripe Geopark. Two of them guided by Prof. Dr. Wellington Ferreira da Silva Filho and another presented by Leticia Freire and Amanda Moreira, both students of the Environmental Engineering course at the Federal Institute of Ceará (Juazeiro campus).

Augusto Pedreira "Gugu"

On the 12th, the Geopark Araripe was gratified by the prize "Augusto Quarry 'GUGU' category" Corporate / Disclosure Initiative ", for the year 2011. The award ceremony took place during the III GeoBRheritage (III Brazilian Symposium on Geological Heritage) and several work initiatives related to the Protection of Geological Heritage, Material and Immaterial were thus recognized the commitment and creativity of the people who make this theme, one of the goals of their lives.

 

In the case of Geopark Araripe, 9 years ago that establishes and solidifies as an institution that prioritizes territorial and economic development, through the promotion actions involving from small artisan communities of its geosites to the large-scale awareness of the importance the Geoconservation, Geoeducação and Geotourism.

As for the year to which the category of the award relates, in 2011, it is noteworthy that the Geopark Araripe had recently received the UNESCO Green Seal and, among other dissemination actions, promoted to 1st Latin - American Conference and Caribbean Geoparks (LAC) when event participants signed the Declaration of Araripe. In paragraph 7 of that statement it was decided that

"The Government of the State of Ceará, creator, with the Regional University of Cariri, the first Geopark in Latin America and the Caribbean, with support from the Federal Government of Brazil undertakes, in this statement, to mobilize the human, technological and economic means to support and facilitate the development of Geoparks projects in this region, thus foreseeing the creation of a future Latin American and Caribbean Network of Geoparks. Geopark Araripe (Ceará, Brazil), on 19 November 2010 ".

And since then, the team that makes up the Geopark Araripe has worked around to achieve the commitment to his people on a scale that part of the region to the national level.

In the acceptance speech, the Communication Sector Coordinator of Geopark Araripe, spoke for the whole family "geopark araripense" citing briefly some of the struggles of those 9 years Geopark and had been mentioned by the Rector of the URCA, José Patrício Melo during the Round Table on Geoparks at the Symposium. Thrilled by the achievement of the team, he said, using the term that has been increasingly used in internal Geopark Araripe expedients: "We often say that the Geopark Araripe is the face of his people and hope thereby to contribute to other candidates the Geopark in Brazil also have your face. Be with international or national recognition, what matters is the union of those who are passionate about the idea of ​​geopark. And if the Araripe Geopark can contribute to the solidification of other geoparks in Brazil will be wonderful, very important to us! "

Round table "Geoparks in the Brazil: 'Quo Vadis'?"

The schedule of activities III GeoBRheritage (Brazilian Symposium on Geological Heritage), held 08-13 of September, the most awaited roundtable began with the speech of the Rector of the Regional University of Cariri, José Patrício Melo, who represented the Geopark Araripe under the theme "Geoparks in Brazil, 'quo vadis?'".

 

In his presentation, the Rector shared the struggles and achievements of First Geopark of the Americas stamped by UNESCO and, for now, the only in Brazil. Pointed out that in its nine years of existence, the Geopark Araripe has run through two UNESCO evaluations, and therefore understands the importance of dialogue with other Brazil's aspiring geoparks to strengthen, expand and solidify ideas of those who want other Geoparks in Brazilian territory.

 

He took the opportunity to expose the relevance of those geoparks that has no international hallmark, but recognize functioning as such, identified by the geological and mineralogical heritage importance for human development, sustainable and relevance of geoconservation work.

Araripe Geopark will host the V Geobrheritage in 2019

In the last General Meeting of the members of the Association of Protection Geological and Mineralogical Brazilian Heritage held on 12 September during the III GeoBRherirage, the Geopark Araripe was invited to host the fifth. Edition of the Symposium, with the support of the Geopark Seridó Rio Grande do Norte Project, represented by the Coordinator Marcos Nascimento (UFRN). The event will also take place in 2019 and prior to this, the next will be in Ponta Grossa (PR) in 2017.

 

The Symposium takes place in years with odd and final objective, in each edition, bring together geologists, paleontologists, curators other researchers involved with the Geological Heritage of Brazil.

 

It is worth mentioning the immeasurable importance of this invitation to Geopark Araripe therefore gradually the Project is consolidated in Brazil in specific academic circles, promoting the dissemination of scientific production of the country and allowing it to be known in loco increasing by public.

Exhibition about 9 years of the Geopark Araripe

in Cariri Garden Shopping

Once again, the partnership between Araripe Geopark and Cariri Garden Shopping yields positive results. This year, celebrating 9 years of the Brazilian Geopark!

 

Will start on the 14th of September to 3rd. exhibition edition of the Geopark Araripe, in Cariri Garden Shopping in Juazeiro / EC. This year, under the title "Nine Years Araripe Geopark", the exhibition will feature pieces of Paleontology Museum's collection of URCA and activities promoted by the Interpretation and Environmental Education Centre (CIEA) Araripe Geopark. Shall be open to the public until September 22, at 10am hours to 21h.

 

Visitors will learn a little about natural resources, cultural historical, peleontológicas and more of the territory of Cariri Cearense. During the days of exhibition, there will be workshops fossil replicas and work with clay, with reference to the International Year of Lands, spread by UNESCO and aiming to work theoretical aspects of paleontology and soil more practical and playful way. The exhibition aims to remind the community of the region that their territory has to offer to offer, in addition to showing a bit of history on earth for its residents, encouraging them to save heritage where they live.
