Nine years of Geopark Araripe:
struggles and achievements of the first in Brazil!

September 21, 2015, the Geopark Araripe team celebrated nine years of its creation.


Over this period, it is worth punctuate key moments of the struggles and achievements since the establishment of the project until its completion.

 

The initial proposal of the Araripe Geopark Project, intended for immediate preservation of the main sites, transformed into visiting sites and search composing a network of nine parks or geotopes with documentary records deemed essential to understanding the origin, evolution and current structure of the Earth and of life. These sites, located in Ceará municipalities of Santana do Cariri, Nova Olinda, Crato, Juazeiro, Barbalha and Old Mission are representative sites of geological strata with fossil-bearing formations.

 

The origin of the proposal was given from the preparation of APPLICATION DOSSIER FOR nomination ARARIPE GEOPARK, STATE OF CEARÁ, BRAZIL, Convenio the result of cooperation Universität Hamburg / URCA / DAAD, under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Gero Hillmer, Curator of the Institute and the University of Hamburg Museum of Paleontology and collaboration of other teachers of their own URCA - such as Prof. Dr. André Herzog Cardoso and Prof. Dr. Alexandre Magno Feitosa Sales and collaborators from other universities, such as Prof. Jose Sales Costa Filho / UFC. Then the proposal was forwarded to UNESCO check, seeking acknowledgment of all these relevant situations, in early 2006

The document contained an extensive scientific documentation on the Araripe, territorial analysis of more than 60 relevant situations and information on the potential for sustainable development of the region under the aspects of Education, Culture, Tourism, Environmental Preservation and Social and Economic Development, the which led to its approval on 2nd UNESCO ConferenceonGeoparks in Belfast, Ireland, in September / 2006.

 

Today, 9 years old, the Geopark Araripe is among the current 120 World Geoparks, chancelados by UNESCO!

Geopark Araripe's Birthday
celebrated in style!

On Monday (21) in the Lobby Cariri Garden Shopping (Juazeiro / EC), met with the staff of Geopark Araripe (directors, coordinators, trainees, employees and collaborators), the Rector of the University Regional Cariri and Pro-rectors for the commemoration ceremony for the nine years of implementation of the Project.

 

The event's master of ceremonies, the developer of Araripe Geopark since its inception Ypson Felix and was attended by partners from the private sector, such as Cariri Garden Shopping Management, in the person of John Victor SalibaNaime, will Iu-Hotel, and representatives of six municipalities that represent the territory of the Geopark.

 

Brightening the ceremony, there was a walk in the Mall with the presentation of Flautistas Mirins "In Sound Tracks," the Karius Institute, accompanied by dancers from the School Dance Group Generous Amélia da Cruz, municipality of Santana do Cariri / EC.

The celebrations were initiated last week with the exhibition "Geopark Araripe 9 Years", which took place in one of the Shopping own stores. At the site, visitors were able to meet some of the fossils extracted from the Araripe Sedimentary Basin, photos of Geosites Geopark, see handicrafts made by traditional craftsmen that territory and fossil replicas made by the trainees of the Environmental Education Sector.

During the exhibition, the parents who passed by with their children, could see them taking part in painting workshops, earning "tattoos" the Soldier of Araripe (endemic bird of the region) and learning a little about the paleontological wealth of Ceará Cariri. For the adult female audience, there was facial applications with clay, made by the Coordinator of the Environmental Education Sector, Neume Galvão. In all, about a thousand people signed the book of the exhibition visitors.

 

One of the pleasant surprises that occurred during the event was the visit of paleontologist Rodrigo Figueiredo, who has worked for some years with Araripe material, since I was a graduate student at the National Museum (RJ). Today, a post-doctorate from the Federal University of Espirito Santo. His specialty is fossil alligators of the Araripe Sedimentary Basin. When interviewed by the Communications Team, Rodrigo recognized the importance of exposure to the locals and affirmed the importance of the participation of children with their families this type of action.

 

Before all sing the "Happy Birthday," accompanied by the sound of the flute players, representatives of municipalities received commendations alluding to 9 years of work and many achievements.

promote the 'D' Day of the Social Responsibility

It happened on the morning of September 19, in the Cathedral Square, in Crato, the day 'D' of social responsibility. The event was held by the Regional University of Cariri through the Extension Pro-Rector along with the Geopark Araripe.

 

The day 'D' of social responsibility is a national character event promoted by the Brazilian Association of Maintainers of Higher Education (ABMES) and brings together higher education institutions from all over Brazil, with the aim of bringing the external community activities developed by students, administrative staff and teachers from several Brazilian universities.

 

The activities of the Geopark Araripe were free drawing workshop with clay, fossil replica soldier and painting Araripe, under the guidance of Professor Neume Galvão and Professor Lazarus Macedo, both the Environmental Education Sector. There was also the nursing contribution which held guidance on TB, STD / AIDS prevention, blood glucose test, blood pressure check, under the responsibility of teachers Celida Juliana de Oliveira and Edilma Gomes Rocha Cavalcante. Physical Education brought design More Life, Pounds Alphabet, Physical Evaluation and Functional Training, with the teachers Eduardo Guimarães, Hudday Mendes da Silva and Cristina Linard.

The event also was attended the law school, which provided legal services to the public, answering questions of civil and labor area under the guidance of Cileide Araújo teacher. The day "D" URCA also had the participation of Hemoce, the Crato municipality, the Fire Department and the actors of the Protection to Life Project and Ceará Citizen.
