The story about the Colina do Horto geosite in the exhibition "The War of the men in the land of the Mother of Sorrows"

The Regional University of Cariri / URCA, along with the Department of Culture and Pilgrimages of Juazeiro and the Institute José Marrocos, Research and Sociocultural Study of Cariri / IPESC presents the exhibition: "The War of the men on the Earth Mother of Sorrows ". The theme deals with sedition of Juazeiro and striking personalities like the figure of Padre Cicero, his role as a religious and political man in this city, where is located the Geosite "Colina do Horto".

 

The event is taking place in the lobby of the Administrative Office of the Geopark Araripe / URCA and the purpose of it is to present interactively through models, photographs and artistic productions, history and local culture.

 

On the history portrayed at the exhibition, which is to say that in 1911 in the city of Juazeiro, with the support of Father Cicero, the pact of colonels was signed, in order both to harmonize conflicts and also to affirm solidarity between the rulers of the hinterland. During the military conflict has strained Father tried to avoid with this term, which during the commercial actions of the powerful in the region, looting were carried out, theft and violence practices. But the attempt did not achieve much success, as the cases of excesses and abuses were also reported at that time.

A curious fact was that this conflict resulted in the fall of Franco Rabelo Governor and the political strengthening of Juazeiro. "Sedition" to Juazeiro is a term assigned to decrease the range of motion, and enshrined in the history of Ceará.

 

What about the exhibition, this is made up of models, photos, newspaper clippings depicting this important part of Juazeiro history, municipal territory of the Geopark Araripe!

12th Benigna's Pilgrimage at Santana do Cariri

One of the peculiar characteristics of Geopark Araripe are the cultural events of a religious nature. These occur to a greater or lesser degree in the various environments Geosites that compose it. This month, in the municipality of Santana do Cariri (Geosites Park Pterosaurs and Pontal de Santa Cruz), is the 12th Benigna's Pilgrimage. The event is taking place on the territory of Araripe Geopark since the 15th of October and ends on the 24th.

 

According to the stories told in the city, benign young man became chastity and obedience reference as a teenager. Addressed in 1941 at age 13, by an applicant on the spot near the site who lived with their parents, Benign wanted no dealings with the boy who was called Raul. The refusal was justified because of its purpose to dedicate to the practice of the Catholic faith and caste. Containing no anger for the rejection, the boy killed her with several machete blows, then fleeing. Since then, the Benign girl became a symbol of faith and devotion, the acclaimed "Heroine of Chastity" for the village site. And every day, numerous visitors swell the queues to visit the grave of the girl and the crime scene

 

.This year, the pilgrimage to these places has the theme: "With Benign celebrate the mercies of the Lord." The event was attended by the gospel singer, Batista Lima, that brightened the festival on 18 October.

The 24th day which refers to martyrdom, will feature local morning activities, hosted the caravan in Benign Sanctuary in Inhumas neighborhood; walk to Santana array of Cariri and at 17horas, Eucharistic celebration.

 

The organizers point out that the opening date refers to the birth of Benign and closing his death. The city, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, received this year about one million reais for road paving that leads to where Benigna was murdered and to erect a shrine in his honor.

 

The city expects with this investment, the expansion of religious tourism flow, which will also benefit nearly 500 families with easy access to Inhumas neighborhood. The organization expects a flow of about 30 000 people during all the honors this year.

Interns of the Geopark Araripe participated in the First National Week of Science and Technology of the URCA

The Regional University of Cariri-URCA held his first Week of Science and Technology (SNCT), along with the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research and the Dean of Extension.

 

The SNCT integrates XVIII Undergraduate Research Week URCA, the Third Week Extension, I Graduate Meeting, the First Meeting of Ethics in Research of Cariri, the Second Meeting of the Ceará Research Group Leaders and I Fair of Science, Technology and Innovation of Cariri.

The week began on 19 October and runs until day 24. The program includes round tables, poster-presentation, oral presentations, lectures, short courses, book launches.

 

The trainees from all sectors of the Geopark participate this week with work in the areas of environmental education, Territorial Development, Culture, Communications and Administration. The works start from the theme "Light, Science and Life" (working theme disseminated by UNESCO for the Year 2015), with multidisciplinary aspects.
