NEW DIRECTION OF GEOPARK ARARIPE

This month takes on a new administrative framework of Araripe Geopark, with the Superintendent Vice Rector of URCA, Dr. Francisco  do Ó Lima Junior, professor and researcher at the Department of Economics of URCA, which conducts research on Territorialities Economic and Regional Development and Urban. Lima Junior will be responsible for institutional support for all actions and strategies for Araripe Geopark by the State Government and the senior management of URCA.

Acting with the superintendence, the Geopark will as Executive Director Dr. Marcelo Martins de Moura Fe, professor and researcher at the Department of Geosciences URCA, geoscientist specializing in evolution and dynamics of relief (geomorphology) and develops theoretical and applied research on geodiversity, geoconservation , geotourism and geoparks in geoeducação and conservation units. Marcelo Moura Faith will lead the planning and management of Geopark Araripe along with a new and extensive team of engineers, officials and scholars.

 

The new administration intends to expand the actions already being carried out and will bring new proposals and strategies for the Geopark expand horizontally and vertically their actions throughout their territory. still aims to the conservation of our natural heritage along with sustainable regional development, closer and closer to the Geopark Araripe of Cariri population with the project partners, tourists, students, teachers, researchers and the entire academic community.

30 YEARS OF URCA

The Regional University of Cariri (URCA) completed 30 years of its creation on 09 June. The date was celebrated in the Rectory building with a tribute to the creator of URCA, Professor Antonio Martins Filho, who was also the first Rector of the University. During the event, it was carried out planting the seedling of Pau D'arco, plant symbolizing Higher Education in Cariri Region.

Commemorative activities of the thirtieth anniversary of URCA extend will be until next year, when complete 30 years of installation in March 2017. are planned several events, including, lectures, exhibitions, book launches, among others.

 

The URCA is the first university in the Cariri has trained more than 23,000 professionals from about 105 municipalities in the states of Ceará, Piauí, Pernambuco and Paraiba. It has campuses in the cities of Crato, Juazeiro, Iguatu, Campos Sales and Old Mission.

 

The importance of URCA for Cariri scales up the strategic role of knowledge production, science and technology. Currently has 17 undergraduate courses, six Masters and Doctorate eight.

TEACHER TRAINING

Between 09 and 11 June was another action related to the partnership between GeoPark Araripe and the City of Juazeiro, the training of teachers Juazeirense public, closed with field work in the Colina do Horto Geosites (Juazeiro North), Waterfall Missão Velha  and Petrified Forest (both the Missão Velha municipality).

This training was taken by Geoconservation the GeoPark and had a total of 50 participants and achieved its main goal sector, to enable these teachers to a better understanding of the significant and diverse existing geodiversity in the territory of Araripe GeoPark.

FORUM MEETING ARARIPENSE

On June 14 it took place another meeting of Araripense Forum, which aimed to discuss the prevention and combating desertification in Cariri. The event had the participation of Araripe GeoPark through Geoconservation sector that was present in the tick community in the municipality of Crato / CE, place of the meeting.

SELECTION OF FELLOWS IN PROAE

The process of selection of twenty (20) new scholarships for Araripe GeoPark has continued with the second selection stage provided in the announcement that it is worth mentioning included students and students of all undergraduate courses of the Regional University of Cariri / URCA.

Selected the first stage, which was the analysis of the documents submitted in the registration act (historic and Lattes), will undergo interviews to be held on 23 and 24 June.

TRAINING OF TEACHERS IN GEOPARK ARARIPE

One more training for teachers was taken by GeoPark Araripe through Geoconservation sector, and this activity done in partnership with the Department of UFRJ Geology.

This activity was designed for teachers in the field of Earth Sciences and Biological Sciences of the public the state of Ceara teaching and was held for two classes. Between 16 and 18 June, at the headquarters of Araripe GeoPark in the city of Crato; and on 20 to 22 June, the Palaeontology Museum auditorium URCA in the city of Santana do Cariri.

 

The initial part of the courses was given to the discussion of the geodiversity of the territory of Araripe GeoPark, given by prof. Dr. Marcelo Martins de Moura-Fé (Executive Director of GeoPark and professor of geosciences department URCA), and most of the course, which included theoretical and practical activities, was made by Prof.. Dra. Cícera Neysi, Department of UFRJ Geology. In the last days of each group were done fieldwork with teachers.
