TENURE CEREMONY OF THE NEW DIRECTION OF GEOPARK

On July 1st, occurred the tenure cerimony of the new direction of the Araripe’s Geopark.

 

Professor Dr. Francisco do Ó de Lima Junior, Vice-Dean of Urca, took over as Superintendent of the Geopark and act as an institutional support of GeoPark together with the University and the State Government. Professor Dr. Marcelo Martins de Moura-Fé took over as Executive Director, whose activities encompasses the planning and management of the Institution.

 

The new direction comes with many ideas and proposals and actions for GeoPark Araripe, giving a contribution to regional development and also working for the conservation and preservation of cultural and environmental heritage.

CASA GRANDE FOUNDATION PROMOTES CULTURAL SAINT JOHN’S CELEBRATION AND III CONFERENCY OF ARCHAEOLOGY OF CARIRI

Occurred between 22 to 25 June 2016 a Cultural Saint John’s celebratrion at Casa Grande Foundation, an NGO partner of Araripe GeoPark in Nova Olinda - CE. The event aimed to foster an exchange of multidisciplinary knowledge and it has promoted seminars and rounds of discussions with professionals from different fields.

 

The event began on day 22 with a debate between young people of Casa Grande Foundation, Memorial of Kariri Man and Red Bull Amaphiko Academy and the mediator was Alemberg Quindins, CEO of Casa Grande Foundation, Memorial Kariri Man.

 

On the 24th, Prof. Dr. Marcelo Moura-Fé, Executive Director of GeoPark Araripe, professor and researcher at the Department of Geosciences of the Regional University of Cariri - URCA along with Professor Dr. Virna Monica Pinheiro, of the same department in URCA, made their contribution to the event with a lecture Paleoenvironment of the Chapada of Araripe - Documentation and Analysis.

 

On Saturday, June 25th, the last day of the event, there were rounds of descussions and cultural presentations.

 

Also in Cultural St. John celebration occurred the 3rd Conference of Archaeology of Cariri, which was discussed with the members of the Archaeological Institute of Cariri-IAC, the Regional University of Cariri-URCA, the Federal University of Piauí-UFPI, The Casa Grande Foundation and the University of Coimbra on 

the creation and implementation of a Postgraduate course in Archaeology and Management of Cultural Heritage.

GEOPARK RECEIVES NEW INTERNS

The Araripe GeoPark welcomed 20 new interns to develop projects at our headquarters in the city of Crato, the Interpretation Centre in Missão Velha, the Casa Grande Foundation in Nova Olinda, and the Museum of Paleontology Urca, in Santana do Cariri.

The selection occurred between June 06th and June 27th and the interns began their activities on July 1st, attended a series of lectures about the structureof the institution and its area of operation, which, along with other training activities planned, will provide students with an important basis for the development of activities over the coming months.

GEOPARK ARARIPE ATTENDS EXPOCRATO 2016

The Interpretation and Environmental Education Center of Araripe GeoPark, once again, is hosting URCA’s booth in the week of Expocrato, the agricultural fair more important of Ceara State.

Following the suggestion of the United Nations, which declared 2016 as the "International Year of Pulses" the exhibition theme this year is: "The Pulses in the context of Araripe GeoPark", which is being addressed in several ways.

 

According to the Executive Secretary of GeoPark Araripe, Lazarus Ranieri, ten thousand visitors are expected this year, which will be met with a models exhibition representing all geosites, story-telling for children, biojewels workshops with representative ICMBio Crato, reuse workshops, paintings and drawings activities for children and also the exposure of a regional bodega, in the style of those old that makes the memories of caririense history.

 

Also in the center, a space will be reserved to partners of Araripe GeoPark as the Northeast Lira, the Cordelistas Academy of Crato and handicrafts of creative Cariri.

INAUGURATION OF STONE HOUSE

On 23 June was inaugurated in Inhuma district, the Stone House Reference Center, project fufilled  in partnership between the Geology Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the City of Santana of Cariri.

The Stone House is presented as a reference center, providing an educational project to recive students from UFRJ for field research on the rock formation of that city which is one of the richest places in the Cretaceous formations, which lasted from 145 to 65 million years ago.

 

On the occasion of the inauguration of the project, the Araripe GeoPark brought together researchers linked to Earth Sciences, among them Prof. Msc. Idalécio de Freitas, Geoconservation sector coordinator of GeoPark Araripe, Prof. Dr. Marcelo Martins de Moura-Fé, Executive Director of GeoPark Araripe, lecturer and researcher at URCA, Prof. Dr. Ismar de Carvalho da UFRJ and curator of the Museo Sperimentale Geologico, Dr. Vittorio Pane.

 

Prof. Dr. Carvalho Ismar acts in Geosciences and Paleontology Stratigraphic emphasizing the Cretaceous Period in paleoecology, paleontology, geology and sedimentary basins. He is also a productivity researcher 1st level of CNPQ in Geosciences.

 

Dr. Vittorio Pane is doctor by the Università di Torino in Scienze della Terra and Lecturing at Museo

Geologico Sperimentale, which acts as curator.

GEOPARK ARARIPE BEGIN THE PREPARATIONS FOR CELEBRATE 10 YEARS

The GeoPark Araripe will celebrate ten years in September, but the preparations for the celebration has already began. On July 6th, Prof. Marcelo Martins de Moura-Fé, Executive Director, and Prof. Idalécio de Freitas, Geoconservation Coordinator gave an interview for Verdes Mares Cariri TV, in the news CETV 1st edition, which is conducting a series of reports about the anniversary of the institution.

​

The first interview was taken by reporter Darlene Barbosa in Pontal de Santa Cruz, in the city of Santana of Cariri, one of Geosites that exists in GeoPark’s area.

 

Professor Idalécio spoke about the importance of Geosites, their formations and cultural relevance for the conservation of the culture and the legends and he also spoke aboute to the local tourism and Prof. Marcelo talked about the GeoPark Araripe, the foudation of the Institute, is activity and its importance for the conservation of natural and cultural inheritance of Cariri.
