Unesco and the evaluation of Geopark Araripe

for renewal of the "Green Seal"

This week, the Geopark Araripe will undergo evaluation of UNESCO to ponder the renewal of the "Green Seal". This event takes place every 04 years, starting conditions suggested by the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) for a Geopark remain in the Global Network.

 

The criteria of this assessment include options ranging from the Green Seal (permanence of a Geopark in the Global Network for their activities favorable to the goals of a Geopark), Yellow (meaning "stay approval in Global Network with restrictions") or red (which is the removal of the Geopark as the Global Network member, but which can be reviewed after fulfilling the required measures).

 

UNESCO evaluators will be in Cariri 21 to 23 July and the schedule for visits and analysis of activities for the Geopark Araripe includes: Gone to Geosites, accompanied by experts of the Regional University of Cariri, visit the Museum of Paleontology at the University Regional Cariri, contact with cultural manifestations of the municipalities of the Geopark territory, among others.

 

There is great expectation for the renewal of Green Seal, for since its inception, the Geopark Araripe has made significant contributions to their territory and for the academic community in Brazil and in several countries.

 

The evaluation delegation will receptioned by Managers Geopark Araripe, by the Rector of the Regional University of Cariri, trainees, staff and employees of this Geopark.

protocol of intentions in favor of

sustainable entrepreneurship in Cariri

A partnership for the development of entrepreneurial projects, to ensure sustainability, was signed on the afternoon of Tuesday, the Rector of the Regional University of Cariri (URCA), Patrício Melo, and the Superintendent of Support for Micro and Small Enterprises ( Sebrae), Ceará, Joaquim Cartaxo. The ceremony to sign the memorandum of understanding had The Secretary of State Agricultural Development, Dede Teixeira, and the chairman of the State Advisory Board of the Sebrae, Flávio Savoy.

 

The ceremony took place at the stand of Sebrae in ExpoCrato, with the presence of several officials, including the Vice-Rector of the URCA, Francisco Ó de Lima Junior, Pro-Rectors, the general coordinator of Geopark Araripe, Idalécio Freitas, and authorities local, and artisans throughout the region, which are inserted into the area of ​​the Geopark Araripe and are part of Sebrae craft shows.

 

The superintendent of the Sebrae, Joaquim Cartaxo, expressed his satisfaction in being able to share the moment of signing of the protocol in Cariri, naming a relaxed way of 'Geosebrae', by inserting into actions that are directly linked with the real purpose of the body, which It is able to give support to individual entrepreneurs and microentrepreneurs chains such as crafts. The Secretary Dede Teixeira stressed that the actual extent than is the Geopark Araripe has not yet been achieved by the actions that have already been developed. "There is still much to do before the first Geopark in the Southern Hemisphere and the Americas," he said.

 

The signed memorandum of understanding aims to establish interests to carry out partner activities, the development of joint actions aimed at geotourism geoconservation and geoeducação through specific interests and work plans to be developed. Thus, these projects are aimed at supporting social and environmental actions, technical advice to projects and monitoring, in addition to the viability of projects or approved work plans.

Activities and visitors who marked the exhibition "The soil that sustains us" in the CIEA

Over the past week, the flow of people enjoyed the exhibition "The soil that sustain us" occurred in the Interpretation and Environmental Education Center of Geopark Araripe/Cariri Regional University was more than 5000. The exhibition that reflects the theme of the International Year of Soils released by UNESCO and held in the city of Crato (Geosite Batateiras) also featured activities such as crafts and skin cleansing with clay, demonstration lithography, replicas of painting, tattoos of the soldier of Araripe, biojewels workshop. In addition, visitors who came from other states could learn various regional products, such as handicrafts in Cariri stone (lithography), Cloth Dolls of "Boqueiras do Pé de Manga", crafts Clay, twine and xylograph.

 

As authors of these activities worth mentioning, besides the Geopark Araripe staff (managers, trainees and employees), the artisans working with clay and the Cariri stone (lithography in Limestone Laminate, the Geosite "Pedra Cariri"). They are, respectively, Corrinha from "Hands On" and Graça, from "Stone by Stone".

 

The Interpretation and Environmental Education Center in the dissemination of Twine and xylographs had the presence of the Cícero Lourenço, xylographer of the region and the President of the Academy of Cordelistas of Crato, Anilda Figueiredo, as well as the participation of Producer Jorge Carvalho, from project "Rapadura Cultural", which aims to bring together people of society that produce the most varied forms of art and to disclose them.

The skin cleansing with the use of clay offered to visitors was made by Professor Neuma (Coordinator of the Environmental Education Sector Geopark Araripe) along with collaborator Louzinha (ICMBio) and trainees Araripe Geopark.

 

The event on soils had partners of Geopark Araripe: SEST / SENAT, Iu-iá Hotel, Christian Association of Base (ACB), AGTURC and collaboration with the Tourist Guide, Vera Torres, who helped the young trainees of the Geopark to explain about the specific characteristics of each geosite and their legends, from the models of the exhibition.

 

One of the pleasant surprises this week exhibition was the visit of Professor and paleontologist Flaviana Jorge de Lima, the Regional University of Cariri, who gave a class to the visitors about the formation of fossils.

 

Among the visitors, the Interpretation and Environmental Education Center received the Technical of the Secretariat of Environment of Ceará State Government , Francisco Ênio Oliveira, who told us a little about your display about the impressions: "The exhibition is very educational and It is understanding, which makes it easier for people who, despite being secular, may be more aware of what is the Geopark and its importance.
