The Araripe Geopark and the risk of fossil trafficking

The Geopark Araripe as an institution that oversees the natural heritage and have their work in accordance with aspects of geoconservation, geoeducação and geotourism laments once again the apparent persistence of trafficking in fossils of the region. In addition, it states that the fossil snake with Four Paws, supposedly located in the Sedimentary Basin of Araripe, only became known to the institution, after the journal Science disseminate it on the 24th of July and the Brazilian media share the news intensely .

To manage and monitor the output of fossil exists the National Mineral Protection Department (DNPM) which is the body responsible for regulating the collection and extraction. The commercialization of fossils is restricted by law because they are considered property of the Union since 1942. As facts so has occurred repeatedly over the years, the Geopark Araripe relies on increasingly necessary by the competent authorities to prevent the occurrence of this crime.
