RECTOR AND DIRECTOR OF THE PALEONTOLOGY MUSEUM  PARTICIPATE IN A MEETING OF THE AMERICAN NETWORK OF GEOPARKS

The Araripe Geopark and the Regional University of Cariri (URCA) were represented at the 1st Meeting of the Geoparks Network of Latin America and the Caribbean, held from January 21 to 25 of this year, in the Minera Comarca, in Mexico, in the city of El Chico. The meeting included the World Geopark Unesco of the Region of Minera and the University Seminar of Geoheritage and Geoparks promoted by Secretary of Tourism of the State of Hidalgo.

 

The Rector of the URCA, José Patrício Pereira Melo, who composes the evaluation team of Geoparks of UNESCO and the Director of the Museum of Paleontology Plácido Cidade Nuvens, Sérgio Vilaça were present in the various discussions and decisions of the event, in which part of them will happen in Brazil , as well as important meetings related to Museums. The meeting of the Geoparks network of Latin America and the Caribbean - Geolac will take place in March 2019. On September 10 of this year, in Italy, the Geopark will participate in the Global Conference of Geoparks. At the occasion, there will be a meeting with members of the networks.

GEOPARK HOSTS XVIII HOLIDAY COLOGNE

During three days, 19 children from public and private schools in the Cariri region were able to have fun and learn about the Araripe GeoPark in ludic activities developed at the XVIII Holiday Cologne that was held at the Center for Interpretation and Environmental Education (CIEA) on 22, 23 and 24. The holiday cologne is an event proposed by the Environmental Education sector and coordinated by Professor Neuma Galvão.

 

The children participated in interactive and fun activities, such as treasure hunting, painting of the Araripe Manakin bird, painting of plaster toys and soccer.On the last day, the kids visited the Batateiras Geosite and Sítio Fundão State Park, during an ecological tour, funny and with a lot of knowledge. The Holiday Cologne is held every year with open  participation of children between 6 and 15 years of the Cariri region of Ceará.

PLÁCIDO CIDADE NUVENS PALEONTOLOGY MUSEUM REOPENED WITH MORE INTERACTIVE AND DIDACTIC EXHIBITIONS

A more interactive environment, combining culture and science in one environment. The Plácido Cidade Nuvens Paleontology Museum - of the Regional University of Cariri (URCA), was reopened on 17/01, in a ceremony held on the spot, with the appointment of the director Sérgio Vilaça, by the Rector of URCA, Patricio Melo.

 

Museum has a new configuration, with four exhibitions, valuing the didactic and interactive aspect with the public. Fossils distributed at various points on the first floor of the museum can be observed in more detail, with magnifiers available for this purpose.

 

The event was attended by the great names of Brazilian paleontology, like  Professor of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Alexander Kellner, one of the greatest authorities in studies of pterosaurs in Brazil. Also with a tribute to the former Rector of the URCA and creator of the Museum, Plácido Cidade Nuvens.

GEOPARK ARARIPE PARTICIPATION AT CARIRI CRIATIVO FAIR

GeoPark Araripe participated in the first edition of the Creative Cariri Fair of the year, which took place on the 11th and 12th, and is always held on the second weekend of each month at RFFSA's Square, Crato-CE. Together with the Association of Woodcutters and Artisans of Cariri - AXARCA, the GeoPark Culture sector exhibited several pieces in woodcut, a printing technique in which the drawing is carved into the wood.According to the coordinator of the Culture and Tourism sector, the objective of the exhibition is to spread the tradition of this regional art as well as the Lira Nordestina.

 

The fair attracts the participation of hundreds of thousands of Cariri people throughout the year and brings together creative entrepreneurs, groups and collectives of culture and art and organizations related to the theme of Creative Economy in Cariri, with original works of the sectors of fashion, design, crafts and local gastronomy.

GEOPARK PARTICIPATES IN APP LAUNCH ON FLORA AND HISTORICAL RICHES OF THE BATATEIRAS GEOSITE

The Executive Director of GeoPark Araripe, Nivaldo Soares, accompanied by the Coordinator of Geoconservation, Idalécio Freitas, participated, on the 12th, the launch of the application that mapped the flora and the historical riches of the State Park Sítio Fundão, where is located the  Batateiras geosite, in Crato.

 

The initiative is from the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Ceará, Crato campus, in partnership with the State Department of Environment of the municipality. The development and execution of the project were carried out by professors Gauberto Barros, from the Zootechnics course, and João Alberto Abreu, from the Information Systems course, and by students João Willamy and Matheus Soares, also from Information Systems. The project is part of the anniversary celebrations of the State Park, which completes ten years in 2018.

 

The "Ecomapss" app is available for free download at "Play Store" and can be used to recognize the flora of the trail and information of the first first-floor pug house, a rare building, which is part of the historical wealth of the place.
