II SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION AT STATE PARK SÍTIO FUNDÃO

The State Park Sítio Fundão held last Thursday (04/19), the Second Scientific Expedition. Coordinated by the master's degree in Bioprospecting Molecular in the line of research in Biodiversity, Lucineide dos Santos Lima, the activity happened at   Sítio Fundão Park.

The action, a result of the partnership between the Environmental Secretariat (SEMA) and  Regional University of Cariri, aims to identify the areas of occurrence of the Kingsleya attenboroughi crab in the Conservation Unit (UC) inserted in the Cariri Region.

About the crab.

The species of crab, scientific name kingsleya attenboroughi, was discovered in the territory of the Araripe Geopark, in Ceará. It was found by the researchers Alysson Pinheiro, from the Regional University of Cariri (Urca) and Willian Santana, from the University of Sagrado Coração (USC), Bauru (SP). It is a kind of freshwater crab. According to the researchers, it has already been discovered as an endangered species.

RESEARCHERS OF THE REGIONAL UNIVERSITY OF CARIRI - URCA PRESENT NEW GENDER OF SHRIMP IN PRESS COLLECTIVE

The Molecular Bioprospecting Masters of the Regional University of Cariri - URCA and the Araripe Geopark, held a press conference to present a new genus and new species of planktonic shrimp of the Luciferidae family, on May 2, at 9 am, in the Auditorium of the Master at Molecular Bioprospection, at the Pimenta II campus of the Institution in Crato.

Luciferidea is a family of diminutive shrimps of marine regions with only 7 living species divided into two genera. The main characteristics of this group are its bioluminescence, absence of gills and reduction of pereiopodes (legs). This discovery represents the first finding of fossils of this family to the world, surprising fact, since they are very small and delicate animals, consequently of difficult preservation.

The Araripe Sedimentary Basin had a period under marine influence about 110 million years ago. However, the presence of fossils typically from open sea areas is a fact that had not yet been recorded for area. In this way, the occurrence of this species may be indicative of abrupt arrival of oceanic waters on the occasion of tsunamis, for example.
