ARARIPE GEOPARK AND PORTUGUESE GEOPARQUES: A MIX WITH HISTORICAL TEMPEROS

The UNESCO world geoparks are territories with prominent geological heritage that have enabled the development of formidable biological and cultural diversity. In this context, the UNESCO program aims to preserve such areas and foster the economic development of these regions, based on responsible and sustainable practices, promoting social inclusion and the sense of belonging of the communities.

The cultural similarities that exist between the geoparks after more than 10 years since the beginning of the program are remarkable, and the Araripe GeoPark and the Portuguese geoparks are a great example, it is surprising how we share the same challenges for the development of the territory, according to prof. Allysson Pinheiro.

In order to exchange experiences and share strategies for a better way to develop the territory, meetings and technical visits were held to the Arouca and Açores Geoparks where the main topics were outlined so that a technical cooperation agreement between the Portuguese and Brazilian geoparks could be established.
