DELEGATION FROM URCA ATTENDS 7TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF UNESCO GEOPARKS GLOBAL NETWORK

Between 27 and 30 September, a delegation of URCA composed by the Dean Patrick de Melo, Vice Dean and Superintendent of GeoPark Araripe Francisco O 'de Lima Junior and Pro-Dean of Graduate Studies and Research Allysson Pinheiro. They attended the 7th International Conference on Geoparks Global Network of UNESCO, which took place in the town of Torquay, England.


At the time the Araripe GeoPark received his second green seal. The certification is a positive result of the last evaluation conducted last year by experts of UNESCO Geoparks Global Network about all the activities, actions and strategies developed by GeoPark Araripe in the quadrennium 2011-2015.
 

The event also was attended by representatives from various Geoparks worldwide. Currently the Global Network has 121 subscribers and the area of Araripe GeoPark, rich in diversity, always impresses evaluators coming to the region to meet her.

GEOPARK IN THE COMMUNITY

During the Celebration Week 10 years of Araripe GeoPark, it was conducted by the Environmental Education sector, one more project called of the GeoPark in the Community. The action conducts and workshops in the communities located in the area of Araripe GeoPark.


On this occasion it was attended by Prof. Neuma Galvão, a soap production workshop and flavoring oils and ointments in the community of Vale do Amanhecer, in Juazeiro do Norte, and had a great participation of the people in the community. With over 20 participants and certification, now the knowledge acquired in the workshop can generate some income to the local community.

GEOPARK ARARIPE SUPPORT WILDLIFE AND FLORA CONSERVATION CENTRES OF CARIRI

The first round table during the Celebration Week 10 years of Araripe GeoPark had as its composition with Rose Mary Feitosa, member of manager core of State Park Site Fundão and Veronica Lima, from Institute Chico Mendes for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). At the time, it was discussed about the conservation units in the state of Ceará and the importance of the general population to know and participate in the management of these units.


In this sense a partnership between the Department of the Ceará Environment - SEMACE, the Department of the Crato Environment - SEMA, the Federal Institute of Ceará - IFCE, the Regional University of Cariri - URCA, the BPMA - Environmental Police Battalion, APA Araripe / ICMBio, Flona / ICMBio and AQUASIS - Association for Research and Aquatic Ecosystems Preservation project to develop the implementation of a Wild Animal Screening Center - CETAS in Cariri. The project is being developed with the participation of some students of the institutions and environmental fiscal and aims to facilitate and expedite care to injured wild animals and also perform faster screening these animal victims of trafficking, screening this still being held in CETAS from Fortaleza.

CELEBRATION WEEK 10 YEARS OF ARARIPE GEOPARK CREATES NEW DISCUSSIONS ABOUT PRESERVATION OF NATURAL HERITAGE

Still in Celebration Week 10 years of Geopark had the greatest names on the field of geosciences. Prof. Alamo Saraiva (URCA), Idalécio de Freitas (Araripe GeoPark) and   Prof. Marcelo Moura Fe (URCA / Araripe GeoPark) discussed the preservation of the natural heritage of Cariri.


Motivated by this inspiring debate about the natural wealth of Cariri, the Araripe GeoPark will start the Debate GeoPark Project, which will take place once a month at the headquarters of GeoPark to discuss issues of interest to the population. In this month of October will be the theme on fossil trafficking and possible solutions to this serious problem.

COURSES ARE OFFERED IN THE CELEBRATION WEEK 10 YEARS OF ARARIPE GEOPARK

The Celebration Week 10 Years of Araripe GeoPark had several short courses in their schedule. They were: accessibility and inclusion through the words, ecology education and sustainability in context, QGIS Fundamentals, Water Resources Management in the State of Ceará, Environmental legislation applied to natural heritage, Puppet theater and art in glass bottles, Process of saponification oil and Archaeology in teaching history.


Carried out in the afternoon on 20 and 21 September, were offered over 150 vacancies distributed by 8 short courses and the acceptance was a success. To further contribute to the development of the academic community and in general, the Araripe GeoPark will continue offering short courses like these over its annual programming. Soon, more will be released about it.

GEOPARK ENDORSES DEBATE ABOUT CREATIVE ECONOMY IN CARIRI

On September 20th, we had, as part of the Celebration Week 10 Years of Araripe GeoPark, a round table with the Prof. Cléo do Vale and Prof. Victoria Regia (UFCA) and Lindicássia Nascimento (Network Agroecology and Solidarity Economy), whose theme it was the creative and solidarity economy in Cariri.


The Araripe GeoPark supports creative economy initiatives in communities, offering, workshops and short courses for training of the population, and also participating in the Fair Cariri Criativo, fair held monthly in RFFSA, Crato and aims exposure and sales local handicrafts and promote cultural presentations of music and other forms of arts.

THE GEOPARK ARARIPE FOR 7th UNESCO Geoparks INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

Students of the geography course of URCA, Mazinho Valdemar Viana and Wesley de Sousa Lima, under the orientation of Prof. Allysson Pontes Pinheiro, dean of PRPGP, had published a papper titled "Educational Geotourism in Araripe GeoPark" at the 7th Global International Conference on Geoparks.
