GEOPARK PARTICIPATES IN THE RENEWAL COMMITMENTS OF CASA GRANDE

In December, the 24th anniversary of the Casa Grande Foundation took place in the city of Nova Olinda.

The birthday celebrations began on the 16th and went on until the 18th, with cultural attractions, lectures and round tables.

On Sunday, the 18th, the director of the Araripe GeoPark, Prof. Marcelo Moura Fé, was present and gave his contribution with a speech on the Geosites of Cariri.

The renovation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of the Casa Grande, a traditional ceremony that held on the same day every year in various Cariri families, took place on Monday, the 19th, but its preparation, which involves painting the house to receive the guests, begin days before, even taking 20 days to get completed.

The festivities are already traditional and further promote the culture and regionality of the place and the Araripe GeoPark wishes many years of life for this initiative that protects and ensures the history of the Kariri man.

INSTITUTE ESCOLA DOS SABERES

In order to preserve and to foment the regional culture, arises the Institute Escola dos Saberes, which will operate at the Palácio 3 de Outubro, located in the Historic Center of Barbalha City.

Originally conceived to work together with the project Masters and Guardians of Popular Knowledge, created by Rosemberg Cariry, when he was Secretary of Culture of Crato in 1996, the project went through many debates over the years until arriving in the current format.

The main goal is the brainstorming and, although it is called school, its operation will be more dynamic than a formal academic environment. There will operate classrooms, library, a memory center, offices and will also feature a digital collection, craft store and spaces for partys.

The inauguration it occoured this Thursday, December 22.

THANKS AND CONGRATULATIONS

The year of 2016 is nearing its end and the Araripe GeoPark is grateful for the accompaniment of the readership and also for all the direct and indirect collaborators and partners who have made this year a year of changes, advances and achievements. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the interns who are leaving the institution at the end of the year.

The intern Bruna Almeida is an undergraduate student, who works in the communication sector, was a volunteer at first because of the charm she had for the Project since her first contact, still outside the undergraduate program. He spent a year and six months at the Araripe GeoPark and reports that during this period "I learned a lot of lessons that I will carry througt my professional and personal life, I have presented papers at many events and I have had winning awards on the GeoPark’s behalf."

Angélica Pontes, also na intern at GeoPark Araripe, works in the culture sector and has a similar history. He started as a volunteer at the beginning of college and now has graduated, guarantees that will carry good memories of the period here: "It is not only an academic internship, but it is our base to become a qualified professional."

Another intern who leaves the institution is the Osmanda Moura, a biology graduate, who still talks with fascination about the geosites and the opportunities to represent the institution at events outside the region. "Once geoparquian, always geoparquian!"

We end 2016 proud of the advances, but aware that we still need to advance further in 2017. We will bring new projects, improvements on the ones that already exists, always aiming to promote the protection of Cariri's assets and bringing the local communities together, so that all can know and participate of this.

Happy Holidays and see you soon!
