Arajara Park Stage brought together more than 500 athletes

Araripe Plateau and Arajara Park were the scene of the Araripe GeoPark Race Circuit Arajara Park stage, event for all those who love adventure and adrenaline, which gathered over 500 athletes on May 19 at Arajara Park in Barbalha

With a record number of participants, the circuit is an achievement of the Araripe GeoPark (AG), Cariri Extreme, with support from Arajara Park, Santa Clara Café, Nossa Fruta, Vereda, Lupo, Grafica Fácil, Barreiras Site, IU-á Hotel and Cariri Shopping. Another highlight of the race was the course that was done in the tracks of the Araripe Plateau, allowing the athlete for the contact with the nature of the region. As in the previous stages, there were two modalities of competition, Trail Run (5km, 12km, 22km) and Mountain Bike (MTB- 35km and 65km), this time more challenging. This stage also contemplated People with Disabilities, having athletes showing their strength and will.

According to the Coordinator of Geotourism and Territorial Development of GA, Eduardo Guimarães, the event has already mobilized more than 2,200 athletes, about 8 thousand spectators, reflecting an impact of more than R $ 2 million in Cariri. "The Race Circuit shows itself as a real alternative to foster sustainable regional development by leading the healthy lifestyle banner in promoting the territory," he concluded.

Deadline for evaluators to visit the territory is until the end of July

Geoparks Bureau Global Council of UNESCO appointed the technicians who will visit the territory of the Araripe GeoPark until the end of July this year. The mission will be carried out by the expert evaluators of Geoparks of UNESCO and Geology, Pablo Rivas (Spain) and Tran Tan Van (Vietnam).

The UNESCO Global Geoparks Quality Assessment is conducted every four years to ensure the improvement of activities developed in geopark environments. It is the instrument that allows the geoparks to be revalidated, by acquiring the Green Seal, to remain in the Global Geoparks Program of Unesco. In this evaluation will be examined the actions carried out by the AG in the territory during the quadrennium, but also projects, dissemination of geosciences, management of geosites, among other aspects.

This work should last about four days, with field visits to partners, museums and geosites of the six cities that make up the Araripe GeoPark: Santana do Cariri, Nova Olinda, Crato, Juazeiro do Norte, Barbalha and Missão Velha.

The revalidation, based on the reports of the evaluators, is scheduled to be discussed at the next meeting of the UNESCO Global Council of Geoparks, an event scheduled for September 2019.
