Araripe Geopark Coordinator evaluates Japanese Geopark

The culture coordinator of Araripe Geopark, Professor Dr. Patrício Melo, participated in a recent mission in Japan, as the accredited evaluator of UNESCO, an institution that is part of, as a member of the International Council for more than three years and Global Geoparks Network ( GGN) of the Geopark Toya-Usu. This is the second Geopark in the Asian continent evaluated by the former dean of the Universidade Regional do Cariri - URCA. The first was in China, the Yan Dang Shan, in 2017.

 

With the costs of the mission banked by the Japanese GeoPark, the URCA Professor is currently one of the four evaluators in Latin America accredited to develop this work, which followed a determined agenda for the realization of the assessments. The visits were made between 22 and 28 July, covering several historical, cultural and natural equipment of the area.

 

The evaluators were welcomed by technical members of the Toya-Usu Geopark. Currently, Patrício Melo has a seat in the executive Bureau of the Global Geoparks Network, which is an international association, the technical arm of assistance in research for UNESCO, and Member of the UNESCO World Geoparks Council. Being the result of an election and general direct action of the international organ, based in Paris.

 

This is the second time that a Geopark representative from Latin America is invited to be an appraiser in a Geopark project. Altogether there are four, two in Mexico, one in Uruguay and one in Brazil. "It is a mission designated by UNESCO, this is important, when it is qualified for the evaluation of territory, from a good work done at the Araripe Geopark. Therefore, it becomes a distinction, "explains Professor Patrício Melo.

URCA hosts I National Seminar Indigenous Peoples of Cariri Cearense

Held on August 9th and 10th at the Universidade Regional do Cariri(URCA), the 1st National Seminar Indigenous Peoples of Cariri Cearense discussed the indigenous cause at a time when the cause has been widely discussed throughout Brazil. The event, a tribute to the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, had the presence of the rector of URCA, Professor Francisco do O ' de Lima Júnior, at the opening table, the executive director of Araripe Geopark (AG), Nivaldo Soares, and the pro-dean of extension of the URCA, Teacher Sandra Nancy Freire.

Then, the initial presentation of the seminar was held, by Professor José Patrício Melo, from the Department of Law of the institution and director of the culture sector of Araripe Geopark and Thiago Florêncio, from the Department of History.

In Cariri there is a space and a culture to be defended and preserved.

After opening, the discussion table on ethnic affirmation and community organization was held: the indigenous presence in the contemporary Ceará, which included the speakers Teka Potiguara, leadership of the Potiguatapuia movement, by Monsenhor Tabosa; Teresa Kariri, Kariri leadership – Crateús; Cristina Kariri, Kariri-Crateús leadership; In addition to other leaders such as Rosa Kariri and Cacique Pau de Ouro. The mediation performed by the singer João do Crato.

The event had great programming in Urca and the community of Poço Dantas, in Crato, with the right to exhibition of the handcraft of the Kariri people, film debate suaçuamussará, which reports the journey of two leaders of the Tremembé people, the Cacique João Venança and the Shaman Luís Caboco, workshop of Biojewellery, with representative of the group Urucongo of Arts; Indigenous Graphics, with the Nzinga Research Group, URCA Arts; circular dances of the Cariri: Ciranda, Coco and Samba wheel-Mestre Gilberto (art and Tradition), Manoel Leandro (Urucongo Group of Arts) and Jean Alex (Moacpes), with the procession of Santa Clara and Forró de Rabbi with the Masters.

Seridó Geopark Project of Brazil

In the state of Rio Grande do Norte, the territory formed by the municipalities of Cerro Corá, Lagoa Nova, Corrais Novos, Acari, Carnaúba dos Dantas and Parelhas, with an area of 2,803 km2, has a geological history, with remarkable geodiversity, which dates from more than 2 billion years, associated with countless mineral occurrences, highlighting the largest deposits of scheelite (tungsten ore) in South America. Allied to this has geomorphological features with incredible landscapes given by depressions, plateaus, canyons, inselbergs, and saws with countless associated geoshapes.

Allied to all this is the source of the river that gave a name to the state of  "Rio Grande " do Norte, as well as countless archaeological sites associated with important elements of geodiversity (minerals and rocks),  show a cultural identity with more than 10000 years.

This geodiversity of exceptional and international value configures a unique geological patrimony that added to the cultural heritage are inserted in the only Brazilian biome exclusively-the Caatinga-with fauna and flora not found elsewhere in the Planet.

The management team of the project Geoparque Seridó formed by professionals from various areas has been working on completing the self-assessment form, as well as in the dossier, mandatory items for application to the UNESCO World Geoparks program. I World Heritage Seminar Chapada do Araripe campaign to recognize the region as patrimony

The 1st World Heritage Seminar Chapada do Araripe began on August 06, a campaign of heritage recognition of the cultural and geographic basin that crosses the states of Ceará, Pernambuco, and Piauí in the Teatro Patativa do the "Sesc Juazeiro" unit of the north. The Fecomércio system, Casa Grande Foundation and the organs responsible for the application discussed initial strategies, signing a compromise term with this project.

 

Issues related to the importance of Sesc's social arm in the articulation of leisure, health, sports, and care areas were discussed. According to Maurício Filizola, president of Fecomércio Ceará, there is a need for the institution to stimulate knowledge in transmission by traditions. For Mauritius, "These are actions that are happening that do not represent only the dreams of the masters, but rather our dreams in the face of culture."

 

The recognition is centered, according to Candice Ballester of the Department of Articulation and Promotion of international advisory of the Institute of Historical and Artistic and national Heritage (IPHAN), in the process of the construction of the application for recognition National, and international with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

 

This campaign is an initiative of the Social Service of Commerce (SESC), which aimed to gather the characters that represent the process of validating the world heritage. The seminar partnered with the Casa Grande Foundation, Universidade Federal do Cariri (UFCA), Cariri Regional University (URCA), Geopark Araripe, state government, City Hall and local non-governmental organizations.

Artists from the region support proposals for the intervention of Araripe Geopark at the presentation meeting of the GEA-Terra Mãe

The VI edition of the contest and show of school actions Gea-Terra Mãe received the support of artists from Cariri to advise the participating schools and perform urban interventions in the six municipalities that comprise the territory of the Araripe Geopark (AG). The partnership was established last Monday (08/19).

The artists involved in this edition of the Gea-Terra mother are the Paleoartista, scientific illustrator and comic book artist João Eudes; The Quadrinist, aquarist, graphic design, indigenous artist and painter expert in natural pigments, Kayo Felipe (Filipinho-Casa Grande Foundation), the painter in oil technique, Mayana Aquino; The scenic artist specializes in painting with natural pigments, Maria Edvânia Martins and the Paleoartista, painter and sculptor, Francisco dos Santos (Shanadú Ateliê); The Xylogravurist and cordelist, Carlos Henrique; The painter who uses the watercolor technique, Isabel Gomide (Mamulengos wagon) and the cartoonist Natanael dos Santos.

The idea, according to the executive director of Araripe Geopark, Nivaldo Soares, is that the municipalities of Juazeiro do Norte, Crato Barbalha, Nova Olinda, Santana do Cariri, Barbalha and old mission receive the works inspired by the geosites. The project consists of a show in which several schools in the territory of the AG choose a theme, from the 24 proposals established in the project, and consonant with the objective 11 of the UNESCO Agenda 2030, and present work in the urban space in its surroundings. These works can create murals, paint means wires, deploy small community libraries, among others. This edition of the event will culminate with the presentation of the works on the 31st of October at the salon of acts of the Regional University of Cariri (URCA).
